USS Sioux City
New London, CT 2019
The USS Sioux City (LCS-11) is a Freedom Class, littoral combat combat ship and is one of the newest ships to serve in the Navy, having been commissioned in November 2018. It is assigned to the Fifth Fleet in the Persian Gulf, when not visiting New London. I never heard of the term "littoral" before but it is essentially the area of a river, sea or lake that is close to shore. The ship was designed to provide combat support "in the littorals", or close to shore.

TF-51D Mustang
Groton, CT 2019
The P-51 Mustang was one of the most successful fighter planes of WWII. After the war, its role became less important with the replacement of piston powered aircraft with jet powered fighters. This particular version was used to train pilots until jet powered trainers became available.

Recently there was a display of vintage WW II aircraft at the Groton-New London Airport. There are not too many of these planes still flying, so it was great to see them up close.

Lighthouse
Lakeside Park, Fond du Lac, WI 2019
The lighthouse was built in 1933 during the great depression at no cost to the city of Fond du Lac. It sits at the southern end of Lake Winnebago, marking the entrance to the harbor and yacht club. The lighthouse was saved from demolition in 1967, after having fallen into disrepair and was restored in 1993.

Locomotive 2714
Lakeside Park, Fond du Lac, WI 2019
This locomotive was built in 1911 by the American Locomotive Company in Schenectady, NY and was one of 4 purchased by the Wisconsin Central Railroad. By the time she was retired in 1955, the 2714 logged over 2 million miles. My wife's great grandfather worked on this steam locomotive, so there is some family history here.

Pawcatuck River
Westerly, RI
The Pawcatuck River separates the towns of Westerly, RI and Pawcatuck, CT. Westerly in on the right. Parts of the river serves as the natural boundary between Connecticut and Rhode Island.
