New London Exchange

I don't much about "Exchanges", but I assume at one time they must have been a center of business or places were goods, money etc. were exchanged.  I wonder if all cities had exchanges, like pictured here.  Are such local exchanges no longer needed?   At least this exchange building has found new life housing the Interdistrict School for Arts and Communication.

Robin Hood

On a recent walk about downtown New London, I was once again drawn this tiny sculpture entitled "Robin Hood" by the Russian sculptor Michael Dronov.  I posted a different view of this sculpture here.   I have always pictured Robin Hood as an expert archer.  This depicts him holding a sling shot, I think.

Roann and Gerda III

I had to go back in the archives for today's picture since weather and other commitments have conspired against me and prevented me from getting out for more recent photos.  I hope to remedy that this weekend.  Fortunately I didn't have to go too far back.  This was taken this past December.  The Roann has been featured in this blog before.  The boat in front is the Gerda III, originally built in 1926 as Danish lighthouse tender.  She played an important role in World War II, smuggling Jews out of Nazi occupied Denmark.

Valentine Roses

I'm a couple of days late with these photos.  On Valentine's Day this year, the outdoor temperatures only reached about 10℉, so I did not get out to do any photography, even though the sun was shining brightly.  Instead I stayed inside and practiced doing some flash photography, an area I have yet to master, as can be seen in these photos.

Getting my wife roses on Valentine's Day is a rare treat.  I prefer to get other gifts showing my affection rather than overpaying on this one day for roses.  I had a moment of weakness this year.  I hope everyone enjoyed their Valentine's Day.
