Hey! I looked this up! It has been called Thames River since 1658! After the Thames in London, of course! I have a photo of myself walking out on a dock in London, look out for it!
Of course it's named after the Thames River in London. It flows south from Norwich through the city of New London creating a deep, natural harbor there. However around here the river's name is pronounced like it is spelled, rhyming with James and not like it's pronounced in England. I'm looking forward to your pictures of the more famous Thames!
