Charles W Morgan, Mystic Seaport, Mystic, CT
The last surviving wooden whale boat sits awaiting its launch after 4 years of renovations on the 172 anniversary of its first launch in New Bedford, MA back in 1841. There was quite a celebration at Mystic Seaport celebrating the launch, with a whole host of dignitaries present.
That would have been fun to see. It must have cost a small fortune to rehab this ship. I have had the impression that Mystic Seaport's financial state was precarious, so I am surprised that they could fund a project like that.
ReplyDeleteMystic Seaport is doing ok,financially, but like most museums, they can always use additional funding. They've raised quite a bit of money to fund the Morgan's restoration, but there is still a lot of work to be done, and more money to be raised, before she sets sail next summer.
