USS Lionfish (SS-298)

Fall River, MA

The USS Lionfish was launched in 1943 and served during World War II in Japanese waters.  She later served as a training vessel in Providence RI is now a part of the memorial at Battelship Cove in Fall River, MA.  Just behind the Lionfish is the former East German Navy corvette, Hiddensee.

  1. The Submarine service of WW II made great contributions to the war effort. Manitowoc, Wis built 28 submarines that served in the Pacific. They were floated on barges down the Mississippi River and then to the Pacific. These boats accounted for 152 Japanese ships sunk, and rescued countless pilots downed in the sea. USS Lionfish was not one of those boats, but was of the same class.
