The Past

Montville, CT

I think this windmill would be more at home somewhere out in the western plains, and not here in Connecticut.  The structure itself hardly looks old enough to be adorned with the sign "The Past",  so I thought I'd give a vintage look to this photo.

  1. Many early windmill towers were made of wood, but in the last part of the 19th Century most were made of metal. I believe that the windmill itself is an Air Motor, perhaps the most common brand across the Midwest. Parts for them are still available. With rural electrification in the 1940s and 50s many wind mills were replaced by electric motors. But occasionally one still sees a working windmill.

    1. I'm wondering if this is really in antique or not. Like the steam engines pictured here, it looks a little too new to be really an antique. I think this one is strictly for show.
