Army and Navy YMCA

Newport, RI  2017

To meet the needs of the hundreds of navy and army enlisted personnel, a YMCA was established in Newport in 1903.  This building was built in 1911 and had over a hundred rooms where military personnel could spend the night.  The YMCA moved to the Navy base in 1973 and this building was re-opened in 1980 to provide low income housing and to provide space for a number of social services.
