Plymouth Cordage Company

Mystic, CT  2020

Originally this building was 1000 ft long and contained the machinery for making rope.  This is only a portion of the original building, which was built in 1824 and located in Plymouth, MA.  At one time the Plymouth Cordage Company was the largest maker of rope in the world supplying the rope for the USS Constitution, many whalers, and America's Cup yachts.

  1. Interesting. Sailors never refer to them as rope. They are lines. But rope makes clear what they use to make here.

    1. You're right. Ropes that have a purpose on a ship are always called lines. Without a purpose, it is just a rope.
