Hall-Scott Defender Model 2269 12-Cylinder

Mystic Seaport, Mystic, CT

This engine was built in 1938 by the Hall-Scott Motor Car Company.  The only other information I have is that it has 12 cylinders and is rated at 650 hp.  Wikipedia has a nice article about the Hall-Scott Motor Car Company, that can be found here.  From that article, I think these Defender model engines were use to power Navy patrol boats.

  1. Went online and got to listen to this motor start and run. A little rough, but sounded great. Yes, I would love to tour this place and take in all the machinery.

  2. Ed, what I know about automobile engines can fit in a thimble. A very small thimble.

  3. Feet Hudson Company manufactured some of the Hall Scott engines under licensing.I think the Invader 998/275 was made by Feet Hudson. Those engines burned leaded fuel. Some of Hall Scott engines could be modified to burn butane which has a higher BTU rating than gasoline producing more power.
