New Beach and Boardwalk

Niantic, CT

Recently Amtrak completed work on a new railroad bridge across the Niantic River, which I've shown in this blog here.  One of the benefits to the community as a result of the new bridge was the creation of a new stretch of beach and a reconstructed "boardwalk".  I think this work was also financed by Amtrak.  The remainder of the boardwalk at the far west end is awaiting extensive repairs to begin at the end of this summer having been heavily damaged by both tropical storm Irene and Hurricane Sandy.

  1. Unfortunately there isn't any passenger rail within hundreds of miles of us. Love traveling by train, but it is not realistic around here. Glad Amtrak is doing something somewhere. Fine looking boardwalk.

    1. I also enjoy traveling by train and fortunately this part of Connecticut is well served by Amtrak, and some commuter lines. It's about a 2 hr train ride from here to either New York City, or Boston.

  2. Is there such a thing as a concrete walk? I haven't been in that area in a year. Maybe some time in August or September.

    1. There is something nostalgic about a "boardwalk", even though there is not a board to be seen here. In any event it is a nice place to take a walk, especially when they finish the entire 1 mile stretch along the bay. Let me know if you're in the area. It would be great to shoot with you, and share a drink or two.
