Hidden Valley

Washington Depot, CT  2015

There is indeed a hidden valley at the Hidden Valley B&B.  This is the view from the back patio over looking the valley.  I must get back here in the summer to see this place when it's warmer and green.

Hidden Valley B&B

Washington Depot, CT  2015

This beautiful home was built by current inn-keeper, Regine Laverge-Schade for her family and definitely has a European flair to it.  The home is beautiful, spacious, and a perfect Bed and Breakfast at which to spend a quiet weekend.  Regine and her assistant, Sam are gracious hosts, and took good care of us.  I felt like I was on a European holiday, and not in Litchfield County, CT.  I highly recommend the Hidden Valley Bed and Breakfast.

The Victorian Inn

Edgartown, Martha's Vineyard, MA

When traveling, my wife and I enjoy staying at local Bed and Breakfasts, some of which have been the subject of a couple my blog posts.  The Victorian Inn looks like a lovely place to stay, although I think it's a little more lavish than your typical B&B.  On this trip, we didn't need to spend the night, so we didn't have the chance to stay here.  Maybe on our next trip to Martha's Vineyard.....

Mystic River

Mystic, CT

Along  Interstate-95, just before the exit for the town of Mystic, CT there's a scenic overlook.  I've stopped here many times  at various times of the day and times of the year trying to capture a pleasing scene.  This particular time I thought the clouds made for quite a dramatic back drop to the Mystic River.

Adele Turner Inn

Newport, RI

Whenever we travel, my wife and I enjoy staying at local bed and breakfasts.  We find them interesting, comfortable and the breakfasts are wonderful.  This year, as a Christmas present, my daughter and son-in-law treated us to a stay at this inn in Newport, RI.  Located on Pelham St, the first gas-lit street in America, the inn was built in 1855 to house captains and officers of shipping merchant Augustus Littlefield.  It is believed to be the oldest lodging house still serving guests in Rhode Island.  It sits on land that was once owned by Benedict Arnold, the great-grandfather of the infamous Revolutionary War traitor, who was a governor in these parts back in the mid to late 1600's.  Innkeepers Cheryl and Harry Schatmeyer were a pleasure to meet.  They made us feel right at home.

Places to stay

We don't often get to take long vacations, so my wife and I plan weekend trips to places we'd like to see here in New England.  I've already shown some pictures taken during a recent weekend trip to Freeport, ME.  Earlier this year, we took trips to Chatham, MA (Cape Cod) and Portsmouth, NH.   On these weekend trips we enjoy staying at local bed and breakfasts.  So far, we have not had a bad experience at any of B&B's we've found.  If you find yourself  in any of these towns, I would heartily recommend the following B&B's.

Applewood  Inn, Freeport ,  ME
We've stayed here three times.  It's close to LLBean, and breakfast is great.

Governor's House, Portsmouth, NH
This was once the home of New Hampshire Governor Charles Dale.  It's within walking distance to downtown Portsmouth and it's many fine restaurants.

Cranberry Inn, Chatham, MA on Cape Cod
Next time we visit Chatham, we will stay here again.  Very close to the center of Chatham, as well as some very nice Cape Cod beaches.  Too bad we were here in March.  We avoided the summer crowds, but many seasonal businesses were closed.
