Snow Storm No. 2

Niantic, CT  2021

Snow only looks pretty for a very short period of time.  This is the view around my neighborhood following the second significant snow in two weeks.  From what I' hear, more snow is on the way.

Nor'easter III - 2018

The third Nor'easter storm in the last week and a half has closed down the entire state of Connecticut.   The eastern part of the state got the most snow from this storm.  Power outages aren't quite as bad as the first two storms to hit here though.  We've been lucky here so far.

There is a car under that snow.

2017 in Review - January-Boardwalk

Niantic, CT  2017

It's that time of the year when everyone looks back and comes up with the "best of " lists whether it be movies, books, albums, cameras or even photos.   So not to be undone, and also since I've been having a hard time coming up with timely and what I consider quality photos,  I'll be presenting one photo from each month in 2017 for the next 12 days.   They might not be my best photos of the year, but for whatever reason,  they didn't make it into my blog on my first pass. Perhaps some of these photos deserve a second chance.  This was taken in January, after one of our more significant snowfalls in 2017.

First Snow

Niantic, CT  2017

It isn't officially winter here yet, but we had our first measurable accumulation of snow yesterday into last evening.  Some parts of Connecticut saw up to 5", but here near the coast, we only had a couple of inches.   Most of the snow had melted by noon.

Rocky Shore

Niantic, CT  2017

The snow is from last Wednesday's blizzard, which left us with about 8-10" of snow.  More snow is on the way.

Hole in the Wall

Niantic, CT  2017

We had our first really major snowstorm of the year yesterday followed by a sunny but very cold day. The Hole in the Wall is a tunnel beneath the Amtrak railroad which runs along the shoreline in Niantic.  The tunnel provides access to our Boardwalk and the Hole in the Wall Beach.

After the Blizzard

Niantic, CT  2016

We lucked out and missed the brunt of this storm.  I doubt we got anywhere near the 8-10" some were forecasting.  As is usual, the day after a major storm is beautiful.

Blizzard!

Niantic, CT  2016

We've been fortunate so far this winter.  This is our first real snow storm of the season.  As I write this  we're in the middle of a blizzard warning with high winds gusting up to 50 mph with snow accumulations expected between 8-10".   That's a good amount of snow, but not nearly as much as was seen in Washington, D.C. or New York City due to this storm.  It started snowing here this morning about 8:00 AM and around noon, the snow really began to fall.  This is the view from my sunroom, looking over my back yard.  Come back tomorrow to see just how snow falls.

Interesting Sculpture II

Kent, CT  2015

There seems to be a theme here with some of the sculptures on display in Kent.
