Mile Marker

I'm not sure how long this mile marker has been here, or if it even the original marker.  It looks to be in good shape, so I'm thinking it might be fairly recent.  You can find similar markers all throughout Connecticut.  I'm not sure how many original mile markers have survived to the present day, nor when they were placed.

My wife was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio and has long known that the founder of Cleveland was Gen. Moses Cleaveland, born here in Canterbury, CT.  On a recent Sunday drive we decided to visit Canterbury to see if we could find any mention of Moses.  Sure enough, he is prominently  mentioned in this historical sign.  Apparently, mapmakers and surveyors out in the Western Reserve couldn't spell and left the "a" out of Cleaveland's name, hence the city was named Cleveland.
