Bay Markers

Niantic, CT  2018

I'm not exactly sure what is being marked by these sign posts in the middle of the Niantic River.  It could be a channel.  I thought the colors stood out in contrast to the rest of the scene on this dreary morning.

Wigwam Rock

Niantic, CT  2017

I'm sure there must be a story about this rock in Niantic Bay, but I could find no information except for its name on a map.

Rocky Shore

Niantic, CT  2017

The snow is from last Wednesday's blizzard, which left us with about 8-10" of snow.  More snow is on the way.

Calm Before the Storm

Niantic, CT  2016

The weather this week in southern New England has been dominated by Tropical Storm/Post Tropical Storm Hermine which is currently spinning in the Atlantic about 175 miles southeast off the eastern tip of Long Island with winds of 70 mph, just short of being officially labeled as a hurricane.    I went to the beaches here in town to see if I could get some pictures of waves crashing on the shoreline here but to no avail.  Despite the strong winds, Niantic Bay was very  calm. Nary a whitecap could be found, much less any real waves.  The storm is expected to meander off the coast through tomorrow, and it might had this way.  We're under a Tropical Storm warning, expecting high winds throughout the night.

San Francisco Bay

San Francisco, CA  2016

On the return flight from Reno to San Francisco I had some beautiful views of San Francisco Bay.  On can see the Golden Gate Bridge in the middle of the photo as well as the Oakland Bay Bridge more towards the top.  In this case my aging iPhone did not do this scene justice.

Niantic Bay II

Niantic, CT  2016

This jetty is a popular place for fishing.  Not so much though on the third weekend in January.

Claiborne Pell Bridge

Newport, RI  2015

The Claiborne Pell bridge spans the Narragansett Bay in Rhode Island, connecting the the town of Jamestown to the west with the city of Newport.  This is a view taken from a resort located on Goat Island looking toward Jamestown.
