South Church

Portsmouth, NH

This is a Unitarian-Universalist church located in Portsmouth, built in 1826, designed by Jonathan Folsom a local architect.  It looks rather imposing in person with it's tall columns and thick granite walls.  It is rather unique in that it is the only granite church in Portsmouth.  One would think that being a part of the "Granite" State, there should be more granite churches in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

  1. Fine looking Greek revival building. Was it always a Unitarian church?

    1. Yes, as far as I know it has always been a Unitarian Church. I too was impressed with the Greek revival architecture here.

    1. Thanks for the comments, Jack. You're very perceptive in noticing the bigger images. All the pictures I posted the last week were taken with my AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 12-24mm f/4G IF-ED lens. I'm not sure I really like the wide angle lens or not. It does tend to introduce some distortions which I don't like, but I know I can fix. I'm glad you like these.
