Someone should decorate theses trees for the holiday season.

From the Archives - White Gate Farm

East Lyme, CT  2020

It's the time of the year when we all look back and remember all the things that have happened in 2020.  For me, I decided to go back  and try to find those photos I might have missed or were not posted in this blog.  White Gate Farm provides fresh, organic produce.

First Snow 2020

Niantic, CT  2020

We had our first significant snow storm this past week.  It was fortunate  that this area only got about 8" of accumulation.  Other areas in Connecticut and New England got well over 30".  Snow is only pretty immediately after it falls, before the plows come and before it has gone through a couple of freeze/thaw cycles.  I'd be happy if this were the last snow for this winter, but I doubt it will be.

Tortoise

Niantic, CT  2020

I'm not sure what the significance of this tortoise sculpture is for the Village of Niantic.

Water Wheel

Mystic, CT   2020

It looks pretty impressive, but this water wheel is probably just for show.

Jealous Monk

Mystic, CT  2020

This place opened up a few years ago at Olde Mistick Village and seems to be doing a very lively business. They feature good pub food, along with one of the largest varieties of craft brews on tap that I've ever seen.

Ship Carvings - Men of Many Colors

Mystic, CT  2020

I have a few more "portraits" of ship carvings that I'll save for a later date.  The craftsmanship that went into all these carvings was outstanding.  They are all so life-like and expressive.  Anyone who visits Mystic Seaport should take the time to see these carvings in person.

Happy Thanksgiving?

Mystic, CT  2020

It has been a strange year, and I think people are pushing the Christmas season a lot earlier than in past years in the hopes of getting the year over as quickly as possible.  I'm not ready for Christmas yet and plan to have very nice, quiet, and small Thanksgiving with just my wife. I hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving.  I for one am extremely thankful.  Next week, I'll think about Christmas.

Ship Carvings

Mystic, CT  2020

This is my favorite exhibit at Mystic Seaport.  It recently was refurbished and reopened for viewing.  I'll be featuring close ups of the carvings over the next few days.

Anchors

Mystic, CT  2020

I'm not sure how many anchors can be found at Mystic Seaport, but they're everywhere.  This one has seen better days.

An historian of the Norse people re-enacts the proper use of sword and shield used by the Vikings as part of Viking Days at Mystic Seaport.

Draken Harald HÃ¥rfagre

Mystic, CT  2020

This reconstruction of a viking ship has been visiting Mystic Seaport since 2016, after a trans-Atlantic crossing that followed historical viking voyages to the Americas over 1000 years ago.  Most of the time she's covered up, but was put on display recently as a part of the Seaport's "Viking Days" program.

Majestic Rose

Norwich, CT  2020

At one time this building housed a dinner theater.  I'm not sure it is being used at all anymore.

Seagull

Niantic, 2010

I've been looking through the archives for some gems I might have missed.  I don't do a lot of bird photography, but I liked the way this one turned out.

They don't build post office buildings like this any more.

The Store at Clyde's Cider Mill

Mystic, CT  2020

During the fall, it's hard to get near this place on weekends due to the large crowds, and limited parking.  Oftentimes there are long lines waiting to purchase cider and baked good.  Weekdays are much better.

Clyde's Cider Mill

Mystic, CT  2020

No fall season is complete without at least a few trips to Clyde's for cider.  They sell both sweet and hard ciders here along with baked goods, and of course cider donuts.

Noodles and Rice

New London, CT  2020

Are restaurants specializing in noodles becoming a trendy thing these days?  I've noticed a few such restaurants locally.  This one was established in 2018 and appears to be doing ok, in spite of the pandemic.  You can see they are equipped for out door dining.
