Madison Town Clock

Madison, CT  2015

I've always liked clocks of all sizes.  Not only does this clock have an hour hand and minute hand, but the  hours are marked by Roman Numerals.  I wonder how many of the current generation can still read clocks with hands like this, much less the Roman Numerals.

Providence County Courthouse

Providence, RI  2014

This courthouse was completed in 1930 and is the 11th tallest building in Providence.  I had wondered why this county courthouse was so large until I found out that it not only holds the Providence County Superior Court but also the Rhode Island Supreme Court.

Clocktower Place

Nashua, NH

This building was once the home to the Nashua Manufacturing Company, a textile manufacturing company that was founded in 1823. The company prospered throughout the 1800's and as it grew so did the city of Nashua, NH.  The company was acquired by Textron in 1945 and the mill here was closed in 1948.  Now a number of the buildings on this site have been converted into luxury apartments.  It's great to see these old buildings kept in good shape and re-purposed into other uses.  It's a shame more cities can't revive these mills like the city of Nashua has done here.  It's even great that the clock still works, and shows the correct time.

Dennison Memorial Clock - L L Bean

Freeport, ME

The L L Bean company was founded in Freeport, and has their headquarters there, as well as their flagship store.  When he first started out after inventing his famous boot, L L Bean realized that hunters kept strange hours, and therefore when he opened his first store, he kept it open 24 hrs a day.  Even today all of the L L Bean stores in Freeport are open 24/7.  There are no locks on the doors there.  Along with all the clothing, hunting, fishing and camping gear in the stores, there are some nice displays in their main store, like this clock.  It's fun to watch the clockworks, and every hour the clock plays a tune.

A Time to Read

Vineyard Haven, Martha's Vineyard, MA

Clocks like this one are pretty common in just about every town in New England.  Most often the clock  bears the name of the town or some sponsoring civic organization.  I found this clock outside a bookstore along the main shopping district of Vineyard Haven, not too far from the Ferry's Dock.  I thought it was very apropos.

Town Clock

Niantic, CT

In just about every "downtown" area there is a town clock.  This one is fairly new, erected only a couple of years ago.  The clock can be found in "downtown" Niantic and either it's running a little slow, or the time stamp from my camera needs to be adjusted.  The EXIF data for this photo says it was taken at 7:03 PM

Clock

Katz Women's Hospital
New Hyde Park, NY

This clock was made entirely of wood.  I think someone forgot to wind it, since it doesn't show the correct time.  It did look pretty interesting though.

Town Clock

North Stonington, CT

I think every New England town has a town clock located in the town's center.  Here's one I found in North Stonington.  It's been a while since the face has been cleaned, but the time was correct.
