Lunch Time

South Freeport, ME  2017

One can't visit Maine without having some lobster.  This is just one of many lobster pounds/seafood places one can find in Maine.  It's located right on the water and had just opened for the season when I drove through Maine a couple of weekends ago.  I was a little disappointed in my lunch however, since their lobster rolls used cold lobster meat with some added mayo.  I've heard that this is the traditional "lobster roll", especially in Maine.  Readers of this blog might recall seeing some pictures I've posted here featuring Abbotts Lobster in the Rough, a famous lobster pound not too far from where I live in Connecticut.  There you can hot lobster rolls which are made with hot lobster meat and are drenched with butter, not mayo.  I prefer my lobster rolls hot.

White Dress

Freeport, ME 2014

She seemed a little out of place dressed like this amongst all the shoppers in Freeport.

Bubbles

Bubbles are hard to photograph.  They also are interesting in black and white.

More Shopping

Freeport, ME

Another shop to visit, and more shopping to be done.  This particular shop is pretty special though.  This was taken in the Edgecomb Potters store in Freeport, a place we always need to visit when in Freeport.  They have wide range of great pottery and also sell the works of other artists.  We have purchased a number of their pieces.  This particular trip was no exception.  I'll be posting more about the Edgecomb Potters later this week.

Model Airplane II

Freeport, ME

As you can tell, I had quite a bit of time in this particular Freeport boutique shop.  My wife shopped  and I had plenty of time to experiment with various focal lengths, aperture settings and shutter speeds.  The best part was, we didn't purchase anything but did admire a lot of cool stuff which could be purchased some time in the future.

Model Airplane

Freeport, ME

It usually takes my wife a lot longer to shop than I do.  So, while I'm waiting I busy myself by taking pictures of some of the more interesting works of art for sale.  This particular shop had a number of metal model airplanes which looked very detailed.  They also were rather expensive.

Dennison Memorial Clock - L L Bean

Freeport, ME

The L L Bean company was founded in Freeport, and has their headquarters there, as well as their flagship store.  When he first started out after inventing his famous boot, L L Bean realized that hunters kept strange hours, and therefore when he opened his first store, he kept it open 24 hrs a day.  Even today all of the L L Bean stores in Freeport are open 24/7.  There are no locks on the doors there.  Along with all the clothing, hunting, fishing and camping gear in the stores, there are some nice displays in their main store, like this clock.  It's fun to watch the clockworks, and every hour the clock plays a tune.

Bootmobile

Freeport, ME

Parked outside of L.L Bean's flagship store was this bright red "bootmobile".  I took this picture on Sunday, Nov 3, 2013, a mere five days after the Boston Red Sox won this year's World Series.  Apparently L.L Bean must be a big fan.  It certainly didn't take them long to paint this boot in Red Sox colors.

Pumpkin Portraits

Freeport, ME

This year our weekend in Freeport, ME coincided with a huge Pumpkin Festival.  Part of the festivities involved pumpkin carving, and I heard that about 8000 pumpkins were carved.  At the end of the day, these pumpkins lined all the walkways and the main street in Freeport.  As you can see, all levels of pumpkin carving skills were on display.

Moose and Bear

LLBean, Freeport ME

There are any number of ways one can sign up to go with a noted photographer on a wildlife Safari and learn how to do real nature photography.  As much as I'd love to participate in such an adventure, at this point in my life, I don't have the time nor the resources.  One could visit a local zoo and with some skill and patience capture some wonderful images of animals "in the wild", or at least a reasonable facsimile of being in the wild.  I, on the other hand, wandered around LL Bean in Freeport, ME and found some nice examples of wildlife on display.  These guys were very cooperative and posed nicely.

Cat and Frog

Freeport, ME

I discovered these sculptures on our annual pilgrimage to Freeport, ME to get a start on the holiday shopping season.  This has become an annual ritual for my wife and me.  We stay at a Bed and Breakfast, shop all the stores, have some nice dinners and just have a nice weekend together.  We can't visit Freeport without stopping in the Edgecomb Pottery store, and making a purchase or two.  Not only do they make great pottery, but they have some very interesting sculptures on display.  I wonder if the frog was inspired by Michigan J Frog

Freeport ME

They have some pretty big things in Freeport, ME.  Outside of the LL Bean Retail Store one can find this pretty big boot.

LL Bean, Freeport ME

Just a little south of Freeport, along Rt 1, you can find this pretty big Indian.  I'm not sure if the boot belongs to him or not.

Freeport, ME
These pictures are taken with a Nikon D90 and are straight out of the camera without any post processing.  In the coming weeks, I'll be going through a number of pictures I took during our annual trip to Freeport.  Like I mentioned in a previous post, I'm somewhat new to  blogging and I'm still trying to find the best settings to use display my photos here.  This is a start.
