Atlas Imperial Diesel Engine

Mystic Seaport, Mystic, CT  2016

You might have to search back a year or two ago, but I'm pretty sure this particular engine was featured in this blog.  This 4-cylinder diesel engine weighs in at approximately 10 tons, and generates 135 horsepower at 325 RPM.  An engine like this would be used to power a fishing boat.  This particular engine was built at Oakland, CA in 1941, and was salvaged from a fishing boat that sank at a dock in Seattle.  It is one of a few dozen Atlas Imperials still in working condition.

Antique Marine Engines

Mystic Seaport, Mystic, CT  2016

A few of the many antique marine engines on display are seen here.  I've attended this expo in years past, and it's always neat to see these old engines run.  Many are in working condition and often are for sale to collectors.  I felt that this year, the number of engines on display was far fewer than in years past.  Still they were all interesting to look at.

1931 Ford Model A Pick Up Truck

Mystic Seaport, Mystic, CT  2016

I found this antique pick up truck, tucked behind the some of the antique marine engines on display during the annual Antique Marine Engine Expo held at Mystic Seaport.

Newport Beach House

Middletown, RI  2016

The newly renovated Newport Beach House is actually in Middletown, RI right across the border from Newport.  It's a venue ideal for wedding receptions and other formal types of gatherings.

Hotel Viking

Newport, RI  2016

I did not stay at the Hotel Viking, but I have it on pretty good authority that it is a fine place to stay if you ever visit Newport, RI.   It has a very classic,  look to it.

Summer Flowers

Newport, RI

I'm sure there are others out there much more knowledgable  than I who can identify these flowers.  I'm a chemist, not at botanist.

I'm Published!

I certainly don't do this blog for any fame and even less so for any fortune.  It's strictly a hobby and a way to share some of my photography.  I have some loyal followers, and what I would call a very modest number of page views according to the analytics.  Still, I'm always surprised when people contact me outside of commenting on Blogger about some of the photos I post.  Such was the case about 8 months or so ago when I received and email from a Mr Kent Fuller.  Kent had come across my blog in doing research for a book he was planning to publish featuring images of the Mystic, CT area.  He asked if he could include some of my photos in his book, which is part of a series of books, published by Arcadia Publishing entitled "Images of Modern America".  Of course, I was flattered that he asked, so I sent him a number of images taken around the Mystic area.  The book was published in July, and included the two images below which also appeared in this blog.

More information about the book and be found here.  You never know who might find and read your blog.

Odd Building

Norwich, CT  2016

Ok, I'm back after a brief hiatus which was a little longer than I hoped.  I'm hoping to resume regular blog operations this week.  I came across this building in Norwich and thought it looked kind of odd situated on the corner such as it is.  A little research determined that fairly recently it housed an auto body/collision repair business.  It doesn't look like it's used much now though.

Safe Harbor

Mystic, CT  2016

The photography gods have conspired against me lately and have kept me from taking fresh pictures to share with all my followers.  I'm going to take a break for the weekend  and will return with regular posts next week.  As always, thanks for looking and I hope you all have a great weekend.
