Frog Bridge - Willimantic

Willimantic, CT  2021

I've always found these sculptures at the Frog Bridge a little creepy looking.  At least they were all wearing masks.

  1. IMHO those frogs are great looking. They are sitting on thread spools, so I assume this town produced thread. Was it Coats & Clark?

    1. Thanks for the comments, Jeff. Willimantic is known as the "Thread City". The Willimantic Linen Co operated the largest cotton mill in the world in 1880 to produce cotton thread. Previously they had relied on flax from Europe to make thread. The Willimantic Linen Co. was acquired by the American Thread Co in 1898 and they remained a major employer in the area into the 1980's.
