16 Stars and Stripes

  1. 16? When did American flag have 16 stars? I see that it had 15 when Vermont and Kentucky were added. Perhaps this is one that someone just made up? Nice photo though, I love our flag!

    It was made by a local women's church sewing circle who anticipated what the flag would look like after Tennessee joined the union in 1796 and before Congress passed the Flag Act in 1818. I've only seen a flag like this in Stonington. It was the flag that flew over the Battle of Stonington in 1814 during the War of 1812.
