Mayflower II-Restored

Mystic, CT 2020

Restoration of the Mayflower II looks complete.  I'm not sure when she'll be returned to Plimouth, MA.  It should be soon since this year is the 400th anniversary of the Pilgrims coming to America.

Kingston II

Mystic, CT  2020

The historic tugboat, Kingston II, has graced the main entrance to Mystic Seaport for a number of years.  The Seaport recently re-opened, with free admission for this week, under new health and safety guidelines limiting it's total capacity.  None of the buildings or historic ships were open, but one was free to walk the grounds.  As can be seen here, everyone has to wear a mask.

Graffiti

Norwich, CT  2020

I thought the colors were rather garish.  I don't think converting to black and white improved the graffiti at all.  At least it is kind of hidden from public view.

Foot Bridge and Tracks

Norwich, CT  2020

I'm pretty sure this is still an active railroad line.  I think it's part of the old Providence and Worcester Railroad, which services this part of Connecticut.

Indian Leap at Yantic Falls

Norwich, CT  2020

Something of historical significance happened here in 1643, as detailed in the state's historical sign located nearby.  The exact details have been lost to time and to the countless re-tellings of the story.  All accounts that I've read do agree on the fact that a number of Narragansett braves attempted to leap this gorge in order not to be captured by their enemies, the Mohegans.  They fell to their deaths below.  However the Narragansett Sachem Miantonomo did actually make the leap but hurt his leg upon landing on the other side.  He was followed by the Mohegan Sachem, Uncas, who not only made the leap unharmed, but captured his injured rival.

The gorge was much narrower back in 1643, but it still is an impressive leap.

Upper Yantic Falls

Norwich, CT  2020

I never knew these waterfalls existed, tucked away in a corner of Norwich, CT.  These are the upper falls.  Come back tomorrow or an even more impressive view of the lower Yantic Falls.

Eugene O'Neill Masked

New London, CT  2020

Playwright Eugene O'Neill spent a good part of his life in New London and is remembered by this statue of him as a youth.  I'm glad to see he's safe from Covid-19.

Trail

Bluff Point State Park, Groton, CT  2020

Some really nice, warm weather brought out a lot of hikers, joggers, and bikers along this trail.  I was lucky to get this shot without them.
