SFO

San Francisco, CA. 2016

I think it's pretty appropriate to have model airplanes on display at an airport.

On the Road

This is going to be a bit of an experiment.  I'll be travelling this week and I'm going to try posting images while I'm travelling using only my iPad, and photos taken with an aging iPhone.  We'll see how this goes.  There might be some slight changes in the appearance of the blog since I'm using Blogger's iPad app for posting.  I'm finding there are some limitations with this app.

Newark LIberty Airport. 2016

On my way to San Francisco and from there on to Reno, Nevada.  For a major airport, Newark was very quiet on a Tuesday.  I think the area, airport and airlines are still recovering from last weekend's blizzard.

After the Blizzard

Niantic, CT  2016

We lucked out and missed the brunt of this storm.  I doubt we got anywhere near the 8-10" some were forecasting.  As is usual, the day after a major storm is beautiful.

Blizzard!

Niantic, CT  2016

We've been fortunate so far this winter.  This is our first real snow storm of the season.  As I write this  we're in the middle of a blizzard warning with high winds gusting up to 50 mph with snow accumulations expected between 8-10".   That's a good amount of snow, but not nearly as much as was seen in Washington, D.C. or New York City due to this storm.  It started snowing here this morning about 8:00 AM and around noon, the snow really began to fall.  This is the view from my sunroom, looking over my back yard.  Come back tomorrow to see just how snow falls.

Niantic Bay II

Niantic, CT  2016

This jetty is a popular place for fishing.  Not so much though on the third weekend in January.

Millstone Point

Niantic, CT  2016

Partially hidden behind the trees is the Millstone Nuclear Power Plant.  From what I understand, it was built on the site of a former granite quarry.

Mystic River Bank Building

Mystic, CT   2015

This was originally the Mystic River Bank, which was chartered in 1851 and became a National Bank in 1864.  This building was built in 1931, replacing the original Greek Revival structure which was built in 1851. The Mystic River Bank merged with the Hartford National Bank in 1950.  Today this stately structure is just a mere branch of the Bank of America.

In the Shadow of the Bridge

Mystic, CT  2015

It's hard to get a picture of this building outside of the shadow cast by Mystic River Bridge, pictured many times in this blog.

Ferries

New London, 2015

It seems that whenever I visit New London, I'm drawn to the waterfront and I'm forced to photograph the ferries.

Outdoor Storage

Norwich, CT  2015

Ever wonder what can be found under some of our bridges?

Mayflower II

Mystic Seaport, 2015

Readers of this blog might recall some pictures I posted about his time last year of the Mayflower II.  During the regular season she is berthed at Plymouth Plantation in Massachusetts, of course.  This is the second year she has come to Mystic Seaport for repairs.  This year, work is being done on the deck, which is why she's covered.

Shipyard Work

Mystic Seaport, 2015

It's a very busy winter at the seaport this year. There are at least 4 ships undergoing repairs and maintenance.  Pictured here are the Armistad, in the center, and the Joseph Conrad to the right of the frame.
