Flume II

Heritage Museum and Gardens
Sandwich, MA  2014

I haven't been very good lately in capturing interesting reflections.  I posted a wide angle shot of this particular flume here and I'm sharing this close up view with this week's Weekend Reflections even though it was taken a couple of months ago.  I'm already missing summer.  Have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by.

Fort Trumbull

New London, CT  2014

This is the third fortification to occupy this site overlooking the mouth of the Thames River.  The first fort was built in 1775 at the request of Connecticut Governor Jonathan Trumbull.  This fort was attacked and captured by British forces under the command of Benedict Arnold in 1781.  The current structure was built between the years of 1839-1851 and is one of a series of 42 forts built during this time to defend the coast of the United States.  Today it is state park and offers wonderful views of the Thames River and Long Island Sound.

Morning Coffee

Portland, ME 2014

A morning ritual for many of us, although not everyone enjoys their morning coffee at Starbucks.  Every now and then I'll indulge, but most of the time I brew my own morning coffee.

White Dress

Freeport, ME 2014

She seemed a little out of place dressed like this amongst all the shoppers in Freeport.

Bubbles

Freeport, ME 2014

Bubbles are hard to photograph.  They also are interesting in black and white.

Portsmouth Atheneum

Portsmouth, NH, 2014

Located in the historic district of downtown Portsmouth, the Portsmouth Atheneum was incorporated in 1817 as a membership library and museum.  Today it houses over 40,000 volumes and maintains an archive of documents, photographs, objects and ephemera related to the local history.  It also hosts concerts, lectures, exhibits and other cultural events.  The canons guarding the entrance were taken by Commodore Perry at the Battle of Lake Erie on September 10, 1813.  I close up photo of one of these canons was a subject of a previous post.

Club Boutique and City Shoes

Portsmouth, NH 2014

A sign for one of the many boutique shops located in downtown Portsmouth, NH.  This was one of the boutique shops that didn't get any of my money during a recent stop.  I can't say the same for some of the other shops there.  It seems we always find something to buy there but on this trip my wife didn't need any dresses or shoes.

North Church

Portsmouth, NH, 2014

Every now and then I get on a black and white kick with some of my photography.  It was an overcast day in Portsmouth, NH when this photo was taken, so there wasn't much color in the scene anyway.  I thought it would make a nice conversion to black and white.

1913 Franklin Model M Dirt Track Racer

Mystic Seaport, Mystic, CT 2014

I don't know very much about Franklins.  By far the most popular vehicle on display were the Fords, both Model T's and Model A's.  All of the major manufacturers were represented, but I had to look hard to find examples of Cheverolet, Oldsmobile, Buick, Dodge and Cadillac.  It was exciting to see some of these rarer, and less well known autos.

Mack Truck

Mystic Seaport 2014

Each year, Mystic Seaport hosts an exhibit of antique automobiles.  This year's "By Land and By Sea" antique auto show attracted over 100 vehicles all built before the year 1932.  The featured attractions at this year's show were a number of Mack Trucks.  Stay tuned for some more images of all these antiques.

Bud Man

Seaside Heights, NJ 2014

Time stands still at some places along the boardwalk in Seaside Heights.  Where else can you find vintage advertising like this?

Betty Boop

Seaside Heights, NJ 2014

Betty Boop should always be rendered in black and white.  Just sayin'......

Sand Castle Store

Westerly Storefronts

Store front windows make for some interesting reflection.  This particular store front was found in Westerly, RI recently.  I'm sharing this with Weekend Reflections.  Have a great weekend.

Boardwalk

Seaside Heights, NJ

Growing up in New Jersey, I did spend a good amount of time on the New Jersey shore.  The best time to visit the shore is after Labor Day.  The weather is still nice, there are less crowds and most of the boardwalk attractions are still open.
