Jetty

Niantic, CT  2020

There is no shortage of large rocks and boulders in Connecticut.  The southeast part of the state used to have a number of quarries that provided granite for building projects all over the country.  Some of rock ended up in break walls and jetties along the Connecticut coast.  Notice the holes and cuts made in these rocks that were made to aid the transportation of these boulders from local quarries.

Stump and Trunk

Niantic, CT  2020

Although it's tough to tell for sure, it looks like the stump and trunk were once attached.  It must have taken one helluva saw to cut through this trunk.

Contemplative Walk Maze

Niantic, CT  2020

While deep in thought, you can walk this maze, and not fear being totally lost within its maze.

Closed for Play

Niantic, CT  2020

One of the many ironic circumstances that have arisen due to the Covid19 virus pandemic,  all the schools are closed with the children staying home.  They can't even come to the local playgrounds to play.  It's also ironic that the price of gas had hit the lowest prices in years, but we can't go anywhere.

What Tree is This?

Niantic, CT  2020

I'm sure those much more knowledgeable than I can identify this tree based solely on the bark.  This is just one of many large trees in McCook Point Park having multiple trunks.  My best guess is that this is an American Sycamore.  I'll need to come back once the tree has leaves to confirm.

Steep Bluff

Niantic, CT  2020

Beyond the bluff is a local landmark known as Wigwam Rock.  Someone placed a US flag on the rock, which can barely be seen in this photo.

McCook Point

Niantic, CT  2020

All non-essential businesses are closed in Connecticut.  The governor encouraged all residents to stay home. Although not evident in this photo, I was not the only one not following our governor's suggestion.  The parking lot to this beach and the boardwalk was full, and plenty of people were out walking.  We all kept our distance.
