Velvet Mill Artwork
Stonington, CT 2021
The Velvet Mill is actually an old velvet mill, now repurposed into a space that houses cafes, restaurants, a brewery, various artists' studios and other craft studios. They always have art on display as well. I found this interesting.

J.M.W Turner Exhibit 3
The Gros Horloge at Rouen, Normandy
c. 1832
J.M.W. Turner (1775-1851)
The lighting was rather subdued throughout the Turner exhibit in order to protect the watercolors. However photography was encouraged. It made it difficult to get good photographs. A number of these works were either 'studies' or ideas made by Turner and were not considered to be finished works, and therefore were never really meant to be seen.

J.M.W. Turner Exhibit 2
The North Gallery at Night:Figures Contemplating Flaxman's Statue,"St Michael Overcoming Satan"
1827
J.M.W Turner (1775-1851)
Here's another example of Turner's work. Most of the paintings on display were watercolors and are part of the "Turner Bequest" left to Great Britain after the artist's death in 1851. The entire collection consists of 30,000 works on paper, 300 oil paintings and 280 sketchbooks, maintained and conserved at Tate Britain. You can read more about the exhibit here.

J.M.W Turner Exhibit
The Artist and his Admirers
c 1827
J.M.W Turner (1775-1851)
It has been awhile since I've posted anything on this blog. A combination of things kept me from pursuing my interests in photography. I hope that in the coming weeks, I'll return to a more regular schedule of posting here. I thought I would share with my readers some artwork currently on exhibit at Mystic Seaport through Feb 23 featuring the works of one of Britain's greatest painters, J.M.W. Turner. If you're in the area, the exhibit is well worth visiting.

2017 in Review - July - Persistence
Persistence by Amy Foster
Mystic, CT 2017
I looked at this for quite some time and took numerous pictures, but I'm not sure I entirely happy with any of them. It is an interesting sculpture, which I came across in a Mystic Art Gallery last summer.

Face and Owl
Madison, CT 2017
I would think these two sculptures were done by the same artist. Similar forms and materials were used.
