Covered Bridge

Waxhaw, NC  2021

I'm not sure if this bridge and nearby mill was built as part of the Millbridge Community in Waxhaw, or if it predated the development.  My guess is it was built as part of the development.  It looks too modern.

Foot Bridge II

Waxhaw, NC  2021

My daughter lives in a community that has well-maintained trails for hiking and biking.  One trail is part of the Carolina Thread Trail, a system of trails the runs through both North and South Carolina.

Frog Bridge - Willimantic

Willimantic, CT  2021

I've always found these sculptures at the Frog Bridge a little creepy looking.  At least they were all wearing masks.

Suspension Bridge

North Carolina South Carolina Border,  2020

There's an extensive trail system throughout Waxhaw NC which connects to trails in South Carolina.  This suspension bridge crosses the border and spans the 12 Mile Creek.  It looks like something right out of an Indiana Jones movie. The top two views are looking back into North Carolina.

The Overhead Bridge

Waxhaw, NC  2020

The bridge was originally built in 1888 and used for vehicular traffic up until 1940, when this was main road through Waxhaw.   A footbridge since then, it was renovated in 2007.

Niantic River Bridge

Niantic, CT  2019

Amtrak opened this new bridge in 2012 replacing a bridge that had been service since 1907.  Along with the bridge, Amtrak helped to pay for improvements to the boardwalk and the beach.

Mystic, CT  2017

No year in review would be complete without at least one picture of the historic Mystic River Bridge, a frequent subject of this blog.

The Bridge is Up

Mystic, CT  2017

It never ceases to amaze me when I see this historic bridge raise to let the boat traffic go up and down the Mystic River.  During the summer months this happens every hour at 40 minutes past the hour.
