The Encampment

Mystic Seaport, Mystic, CT

The encampment was set up on the Village Green of Mystic Seaport.  These tents were more than just display, however.  Many, if not all of the re-enactors actually spent the nights in these tents.  Still, with modern amenities only a few steps away, these  re-enactors had it easy compared to the soldiers who fought back in 1863.

  1. These tents look a lot cleaner than I imagine the ones during the war were. It's interesting that Connecticut has a Civil War re-enactment.

    1. Thanks for looking, Meghan. You're right about the tents. They do look a little too clean! Although there were no Civil War battles fought north of Gettysburg, as far as I know, all of the states up north supplied troops and equipment to the war effort. Many naval vessels were built here in Mystic for the war. This was just one of many re-enactments planned throughout Connecticut to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War, designed to raise awareness the role Connecticut played in that conflict.
