Cassidy Hill Vineyard

Coventry, CT

After a few weeks off from touring the Connecticut Wine Trail, my wife and I had a free Sunday and decided to take in a few more of the more local wineries.  The Cassidy Hill Vineyard is another very new winery located in Coventry, CT.  They produce an eclectic mix of "New England-style" wines.

  1. We have many wineries to the east of here and I'm often surprised at the simple buildings for some well-known vintners. I don't know why I always expect something grand - who cares so long as the wine is good. But now I want to know what is New England-style wine, and how might it differ from Niagara wine. Perhaps a trip farther east is in order?!

    1. I'm not really sure what makes a wine a "New England" style wine, other than the fact that it's produced from grapes grown in New England. Not all varieties of grapes grow well in this part of the country. The growing season here, as well as the soil here effect the amount of sugar in the grapes grown here and therefore ultimately the quality of the wine. I enjoy a number of the wines produced here, but even to my untrained palette, I can discern quite a difference between let's say a Connecticut Chardonnay and a Chardonnay wine produced with grapes from Napa Valley, California.
