Chevy Truck
Niantic, CT 2021
Things have been pretty hectic around here since the start of our move south. My wife and I took one last walk through downtown Niantic during a fall festival last month. I'm only now getting around to posting some of these pictures.

The summer season is well past, but that doesn't stop the tourists coming to Mystic. There is always traffic here.

General Lee
I was never a big fan of the TV series "The Dukes of Hazzard", (1979-1985) which featured this automobile, "The General Lee". I will admit to every now and then watching just to see the leggy Catherine Bach, as "Daisy Duke" wearing those denim shorts.

Batmobile "The Tumbler"
New London, CT 2017
Batman himself was present, seen here standing next to the "The Tumbler", a version of the Batmobile introduced in the 2005 movie adaptation "Batman Begins", directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Christian Bale as Batman.

Batmobile 1966-1968
New London, CT 2017
The main attraction of Motorjam 2017 was a number of Batmobiles that appeared in the TV and movies adaptations of the Batman comic hero. This particular version of the Batmobile appeared in the very camp TV production of Batman, starring Adam West as Batman and Bruce Ward as Robin in 1966-68. It was designed by George Barris and was built using a 1954 Ford Futura concept car. I'm not sure if this is the original Batmobile, or one of the many licensed copies that were produced later. Those of my generation remember this TV series well and would tune in religiously each week at the "Same Bat-time, Same Bat-channel" to watch.

Chevy Impala
New London, CT 2017
Car enthusiasts take a great deal of pride in restoring and maintaining these classic automobiles. They always enjoy showing off the engines and in this case, the owner installed mirrors on the inner side of the hood to show off this particular engine. Very cool.....

1959 Ford Skyliner
New London, CT 2107
A lot of engineering went into making this hard top convertible. I don't believe the model lasted all that long, but it was pretty novel. One drawback however was the lack of trunk space.

Studebaker
New London, CT 2017
One doesn't see too many Studebakers around, especially ones restored to original condition.

Cadillac
New London, CT 2017
I think this model is from the early '70's? Not having seen one for a while, I was surprised to see just how big these cars were from that era. Very little plastic on this beauty.

Chevy Bel Aire
New London, CT 2017
This is one of the autos on display at an event called Motorjam 2017 held at Ocean Beach Park in New London. Car enthusiasts brought their cars to display and to be entered into various contests. I'll be posting some pictures this week of some of my favorite cars. I think this one is a Chevy Bel Aire, perhaps from the mid to late '50's.

End of the Road
Niantic, CT 2016
It was time. Today my 2004 Ford Explorer was officially retired to a local junk yard. I purchased this vehicle in 2004 knowing that I would need a large vehicle to move daughters back from college and between various apartments. Living in the country when I first moved to Connecticut, I knew there would be many trips to the transfer station with loads of boxes and other household waste. The all wheel drive proved very beneficial on a few occasions during the winter months. Trips to Ohio, Maine, all of New England, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Toronto, and one particularly long drive to Halifax, Nova Scotia began to take their toll this year, not to mention the weekly mileage to and from work. The engine developed some new noises, and a hole was discovered in one of it's eight cylinders. When the "service engine soon" light would not go out I knew it was time to let her go, although on the trip to the junkyard, the engine was running pretty smoothly, as if trying to ask me to change my mind. She served me well and kept all of us safe for 12 years. I'll miss her.

Naluark
Mystic Aquarium, Mystic, CT 2015
Mystic Aquarium is home to three beluga whales housed in an outdoor 750,000 gallon pool covering about one acre. I think this is Naluark, the largest beluga whale on exhibit here weighing in at over 2100 lbs. He was born in 1986 and is just a little over 13 feet in length.

Mustang
Simsbury, CT 2015
One of my favorite cars of all time. I find it hard to believe that these Mustangs are now considered to be "antiques" having been first introduced in the mid-60's. I remember them well and was even allowed on occasion to drive my father's Mustang. If these are antiques, that makes me just plain ancient!

40 Minutes Past the Hour
Mystic, CT 2015
This is the time you don't want be on Route 1 in Mystic. During the summer season, the historic bridge goes up at 40 minutes past the hour to accommodate the boat traffic along the Mystic River. Needless to say, it causes traffic to back up on both sides the bridge.
