The Eagle

New London, CT

This is the sailing barque Eagle, used by the US Coast Guard Academy as a training vessel.  The academy is located in New London, and one can often see the Eagle moored in New London harbor.  It is the only commissioned (operational) sailing vessel in the US maritime services.

  1. and i am not positive but i think the eagle is a war prize from the germans durning world war two...

    1. You're absolutely right, Jen. It was built in 1936 in Hamburg, Germany to train German sailors. It is one of 5 such training barques in the world. I think it would be cool to see them all some day.
