Spring Hill Tavern

Portsmouth, NH  2016

Ever run across a scene or an object and think to yourself, "boy, that would make a great photo."  I experience this a lot, most recently on a side street in Portsmouth.  I saw this neat old sign and door to a tavern an thought there should be a good photo here.  I tried a number of different shots but in the end, I'm not happy with any of them.

New Fall Items

Portsmouth, NH  2016

The VW "bus" didn't look new to me.  I saw this item for sale at a couple of boutique shops in Portland.  It is actually a cooler.

Triptych

Portsmouth, NH  2016

We ran across this interesting painting  when stopping for lunch in Portsmouth.  I guess you could call it a "triptych" and it depicts a the street scened outside this restaurant.

Scarecrows

Portsmouth, NH  2016

'Tis the season, and these scarecrows were out in force, a week before Halloween in Portsmouth.

Street Scene

Portsmouth, NH  2016

I've been away from the blog for a few days, traveling this past weekend throughout New England.  One of our stops was in the city of Portsmouth, NH, which is one of my favorite places to visit in New England.  This downtown is alway bustling with activity, no matter what time of day, or day of the week.

Portsmouth Atheneum

Portsmouth, NH, 2014

Located in the historic district of downtown Portsmouth, the Portsmouth Atheneum was incorporated in 1817 as a membership library and museum.  Today it houses over 40,000 volumes and maintains an archive of documents, photographs, objects and ephemera related to the local history.  It also hosts concerts, lectures, exhibits and other cultural events.  The canons guarding the entrance were taken by Commodore Perry at the Battle of Lake Erie on September 10, 1813.  I close up photo of one of these canons was a subject of a previous post.

Club Boutique and City Shoes

Portsmouth, NH 2014

A sign for one of the many boutique shops located in downtown Portsmouth, NH.  This was one of the boutique shops that didn't get any of my money during a recent stop.  I can't say the same for some of the other shops there.  It seems we always find something to buy there but on this trip my wife didn't need any dresses or shoes.

North Church

Portsmouth, NH, 2014

Every now and then I get on a black and white kick with some of my photography.  It was an overcast day in Portsmouth, NH when this photo was taken, so there wasn't much color in the scene anyway.  I thought it would make a nice conversion to black and white.

Reflecting on Portsmouth, NH

It was bright, warm autumn Saturday in Portsmouth, NH.  There were reflections in windows where ever you looked.  So many reflections..... so little time.

In some cases, the reflections made it hard to see what the business was.

Window reflections were only a small part of the reflections seen.  Every reflecting surface seemed to be competing for the best reflection.

I hope you enjoyed these reflections.  For many other very fine reflections, please visit Weekend Reflections.  Enjoy your weekend!

Portsmouth Brewery

Portsmouth, NH

The Portsmouth Brewery is one of the more popular places in Portsmouth.  The place is always busy, serves good food and has a good selection of locally brewed beers and ales.  I highly recommend the place if you're looking for a place to eat while visiting Portsmouth.

Portsmouth Street Scenes II

Portsmouth, NH

Portsmouth, NH is one of my favorite cities in all of New England.   I've visited here many times, and no matter what day I'm here, or what time of the year, I always find the downtown historic area of Portsmouth bustling with activity.  There are many restaurants, cafes, boutiques and specialty shops and where ever you look, there are people enjoying the city.  I learned long ago, that it's easier to park in one of the city's parking garages than to try and find a parking spot on the street.  Parking is cheap here too!  Having paid for parking in Hartford, New Haven, and New York City, it was a pleasure to pay only $0.75/hr to park here.
