  2. That's great looking machinery. Looks like something created in the late 19th Century. Chicago has lift bridges along the Chicago River which must be raised when a ship enters or leaves, but their machinery are all below street level.

  3. Wheel resembles what one would see on an old steam powered locomotive. I think I read that the bridge uses 2 40 hp electric motors to raise the bridge. Thanks for the comments.
