I need to get out soon an make more images.  A combination of things have kept me in these last couple of weekends so I'm having to look back at images I made months ago that for some reason I never got around to posting.  With winter fast approaching,  this sunset reminds me of the warmer days of summer out on Cape Cod.  

1931 Duesenberg Model J Derham Tourster

This auto was once owned by the actor Gary Cooper and cost about $14,000 back in the day when the average annual income was only $1388 and the price of gas was only $0.17/gal.  

J K Lilly Automobile Museum

Sandwich, MA

This is one of the museums located at the Heritage Museum and Gardens in Sandwich, MA and houses the collection of over 30 antique automobiles, that were acquired by Josiah K Lilly III, an heir to the Lilly Pharmaceutical fortune.  He very quietly was involved in numerous philanthropic ventures in the Cape Cod area, donating land and money, including the land that now is Heritage Museum and Gardens.  I'll be featuring some of the autos that are on display here in my posts this week.

I don't believe I've ever seen a more colorful store front.  I don't think there is anything inside this particular shop that I really need or want.  

Old Ford

I'm thinking it's a Model T.  There were no signs identifying the year or exact model.  It sort of looks like a fore runner to popular family station wagons I remember as a kid.

Barnstable County Courthouse

This Greek Revival style courthouse was built in 1831 and was added to the National Registry of Historic Places in 1981.  In front the courthouse stands a statue of James Otis Jr, a Massachusetts lawyer, patriot and pamphleteer whose views eventually led to the American Revolution.  

Early Morning Beach Walk

A combination of cool weather and a threat of rain kept early morning beach-goers away on this particular morning.  There were plenty of good beach chairs available.

Ferry to Martha's Vineyard

Wood's Hole, MA

I've spent a lot of time on ferries this summer.  Recently my wife and I spent a weekend on Cape Cod, and we decided to take a side trip and spend a day on Martha's Vineyard, since neither one of us had ever visited there.  There are a number of ferries that operate from various towns on Cape Cod to Martha's Vineyard, but the least expensive way to go is without your car on the boats operated my the Steam Boat Authority.  This particular one goes from Woods Hole, to Vineyard Haven.  As you can tell, this is a pretty popular ferry

Wendy's Place

We found this unusual park bench in Chatham, MA.  It looks very inviting and quite comfortable, even though it was made of granite.  It was a lovely spot to sit and rest.  Wendy must have been well loved to be memorialized with such a bench.

Cupola Garden

This cupola serves as a centerpiece for the Cupola Garden,  a garden maintained by the Falmouth Garden Club.  I'm not sure if it serves a another purpose or not

Main Street Barbershop

I found this pretty colorful barbershop in Falmouth, MA.  I don't think I've seen a barbershop displaying 6 barber poles before, and on top of that, there was a pretty good reflection in the window.  I'm linking this to Weekend Reflections.  Have a nice weekend everyone.

A Vacation in Every Pint

Falmouth, MA

Whenever I travel, I like to sample any local craft brews that I might happen to find.  I couldn't resist buying a "growler" of Cape Cod Beer, which is brewed in Hyannis, and I believe is the only microbrewery on the cape.  I purchased their Beach Blonde Ale, and had a number of vacations during the week following my visit to Cape Cod.  It's a good thing it's only available on Cape Cod, and some other towns close to the cape, otherwise, I'd be on vacation a lot.
